Hello! I’m Emilie Sophie, the author of the posts here at Conjectanea. Born in Norway, I have always had a fraught relationship with the world and my place in it. I started learning Latin through LLPSI as a hobby at 18, back in 2020, during the quarantine, since I had a lot of time on my hands. The first proper book of Latin philosophy I read was the Tusculanae Disputationes by M. Tullius Cicero. From there, I slowly acquired an appreciation for the Platonic tradition, which is what I now most deeply identify with. For this reason, I began to give Ancient Greek more of my attention in 2024.
I have slowly been working my way through the Platonic corpus, and have read a variety of later Platonic texts, both exegetical and original. My main interests lie with the hieratic school of the so-called Neoplatonists, but I often read earlier Platonists (including the Hermetica and Chaldaica) and other authors belonging to different schools in the ancient Mediterranean, as well as smatterings of Vedanta. I also read works from other religious and philosophical traditions at times.
I have, on occasion, attempted to write things of my own, such as poetry and essays. Those are the kind of things I intend to publish here, together with translations of ancient texts.
